Shopping Trip
Prisco Alder’s daughter, Sophia, will be attending her cotillion in a week’s time. We had time so we decided to take on the request of Cassander’s Velosian tutor, Sergius Delmare and escort him deep into the jungle to investigate the Serpentmen ruins. Talariel also wanted to bring back some magnavorax and terror birds for Swagfest.
Talking to various guilds and organizations around Freeport, Cassander and Talariel learned how other hunters had managed to bring back prey of that size to the city. Alessa was pressured into acquiring an ox and a transport device to drag the beasts back to Swagfest. On the agreed upon morning, we and Sergius left the city, bound for the ruins. Alessa hoped that Sergius was right and that we could use one of the abandoned traveling circles left by the Serpentmen to bring our ox and the beasts we captured back to Freeport.
Outside the city, we traveled for a few miles through farmland before arriving at the perimeter fence. The fence was tightly woven bamboo poles with an overlapping fence for an entrance gate. IT was barely big enough for our ox to pass through. The fence would not stop a raging Tryannosaurus Rex but would protect the farmers against smaller threats.
On the other side of the bamboo fence, we were deep inside a jungle. Sergius let us know that the ruins were in the direction of the largest volcano on the island and if we traveled a day, we would arrive at them.
After nearly a day of hacking a path through the jungle undergrowth, we were close to our destination. The sun was setting when Cassander spotted something large moving through the trees. A huge magnavorax burst through the growth and went after Alessa’s expensive ox. Using paralysis drugs on our weapons, we finally managed to subdue the beast before it could kill our ox. Talariel used the cables he had bought from the dwarves and bound the beast while someone else drugged it to keep it quiet. Cassander busied himself by healing our ox.
Sergius excitedly reported that he had located the Serpentmen’s traveling circle nearby. Before deciding what to do, we took a short rest and had something to eat and drink.
